Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sookie #2 - Still Going Strong
LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS is the second installment in the wildly popular Southern Vampire Mysteries series. In this edition, we meet new characters, travel to new locations, discover other creatures, and learn of a major threat to the vampire community. And, of course, author Charlaine Harris continues to captivate her audience with her special brand of humor with a bite!

Sookie is on her way to Dallas. Sookie's special talents have been loaned out to the Dallas vampire nest, to help them solve the mystery of a missing "brother." As Sookie carries out her mission, she learns of a threat to the entire Dallas nest, and to vampires everywhere. Can Sookie stop them in time?

Sookie continues to be a delightful, quirky, charming character, one that keeps the reader coming back for more. I should know. I read all 10 Sookie Stackhouse books over the course of a two week vacation, and I still want more. Sookie is a strong heroine; even stronger than she thinks. When things get tough and downright dirty, Sookie is able to stand tall and do what needs doing. I always like that in my heroines. I also like Charlaine Harris's no nonsense style of writing. LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS starts off with a bang, and keeps you turning the pages deep into the night. It is smooth and easy to read, yet at the same time, keeps the heart pumping.

Sookie is one of those rare characters who starts to feel like a friend after a while. You want to keep learning more about her, and you miss her when she doesn't come around for awhile. At least, I know I do. LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS is HIGHLY RECOMMENED. Have fun with Sookie, and I will see you all at CLUB DEAD real soon.

NOTE: This review is for the KINDLE edition.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Why is the second book always lacking?
I love this series (both the books and the show) and I enjoy the differences between the two. That said, the second half of this book was terrible. Aside from the inconsistencies in the plot (Bill's middle name, Bill's age when he turned, vampires being "out of the coffin" for 4 years in the first page of the first book and only out for 2 years in this book, and other little things, some repetitive things-like telling me twice in the same paragraph that Sookie had gotten out of the car, when I personally feel like it doesn't need to be said at all), the first half of the book was enjoyable. It flows well and it's vastly entertaining.

The second half...no conclusion to speak of, and not only that, Harris was so vague about it that I'm not even sure what happened or what happened to those people and why Sam didn't seem to even care and was very uncharacteristically dog like about the whole situation. The tv show did a much better job saving and resolving this plot line. I was left very unsatisfied by the conclusion of this book. It wasn't nearly as completely and polished as the last book. I only give it three stars because the first half was good and that part of the plot was resolved well, though somewhat wordy in it's approach.

The people had no motives for the death of the guy found in the opening chapter, Harris never even really explained what happened to him. This book is many chapters shorter than the first. Harris really should have written the extra chapters and resolved the story line in this book. It really felt like a cop out to me. I was really disappointed after having enjoyed the first book so much.

But all that said, the books in general and the show hold their own. There are enough similarities that you can guess at the outcome a bit, but not enough that you know exactly what's going to happen.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - what can I say?
What can I say about this series that I haven't already said? Nothing really, these books are good. If you don't like other vampire books then you will like these. The mystery part to it adds to the book. Just wish bubba was real, I would love to meet him. Loved vampire books since I was in HS many years ago.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - great books but...
Great books, but since the this kindle book is not available in Canada I have to rate this zero.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - jumped on the vampire bandwagon
not so good- easy boring story. bought two of her books at the same time and have not purchased any more. Pretty much jumped on "vampires" being popular and used that to sell some cheap books.
