Product Description: The Washington Post called Newbery medalist Jerry Spinelli "a master of those embarrassing, gloppy, painful, and suddenly wonderful things that happen on the razor's edge between childhood and full-fledged adolescence." Now, in his strongest work to date, Spinelli gives us the world through the eyes of cocky seventh-grade super-jock Crash Coogan. Crash got his name the Christmas Day he received his first football helmet, and used it to knock his cousin Bridget flat in the snow. And he's been running over people ever since -- especially Penn Webb, the dweeby, button-wearing, vegetarian Quaker kid who lives down the block. Shallow, vain and arrogant, Crash isn't the typical protagonist of a middle-grade novel. Readers get a rare three-dimensional glimpse into a bully's life, and through his eyes we see other stereotypes in a brand new light. The antics of Crash and his best buddy Mike Deluca, the strivings of Penn Webb, with his one desperately clung to talent, the maneuverings of Crash's environmentalist little sister, and the passion of cheerleader-turned-activist Jane Forbes turn Crash into a story we've never heard before.

This book is very enjoyable. From the minute I got it, I couldnt put it down. Another amazing novel by Jerry Spinelli

Even my teacher likes it! It is very easy to read and it has usually about 2 pages a chapter. The only thing that is missing in the story are pictures. Some chapters would be a lot more funny with a picture. The story is vivid enough for me to see a mental movie of what is going on in the story. Jerry Spinelli describes the characters so well that I can almost see what the charecter would look like! Crash is the most important main character in the story. The story is like a journal or a diary that Crash wrote. The author, Jerry, even took time to write the story in Crash's perspective. It is a story of friendship, choices, and bullying. The characters are in 6th grade.
I'm in 4th grade until next week, then I'd be having summer vacation. I would give this book a AA+.

I'm an elementary teacher and one day while the kids were picking out books, I picked up this one. I've been a fan of Spinelli for years, but this one had never caught my attention before. It blew me away. It's fantastic-- so insightful. The way the veiw-point character's mind works, the way a popular teenage boy's mind works, is something I never thought much about. Crash is a really intriguing character, but he's also really real. Spinelli artfully portrays a character I initially felt I had nothing in common with, as a real person that I could relate to. This book made me think. I reccomend it to readers of all ages.

This book is about a dude, named Crash, telling his life story, and how he meets a strange boy named Penn Web. Crash told us about his sister and his favorite grandpa, Scooter. His sister became Web's friend and wanted to be a vegetarian just like him. Web was a very strange boy who wore dorky clothes and didn't play with water guns or other war toys. And Crash did not like him. In fact Crash wanted to beat him up. He didn't know why; he just did.
My favorite part of the book was the school dance. It was so funny because Crash thinks he is so cool, and he thinks everyone likes him. He makes a fool of himself in the end, which is really funny. He tries to get the girl he likes to dance with him, and it did not go very well.
Crash's big problem was when something happens to Scooter and they don't think he will live. During this crisis Crash's parents realize that working and having nice things isn't as important as their children. Crash also has a change of heart and learns to accept Web for who he is.

This book I would rate a 4 stars because it has football and who doesn't like football? It is about a middle school boy football star that likes to pick on a little perky kid named Penn Webb. He and his best friend Mike pull all sorts of crazy pranks to get Webb's life ruined and he never did anything to them. Crash's parents are always working for 70 hours a week and he is stuck with his annoying sister Abby. Crash realizes Penn isn't so bad but he still doesn't want to be friends with him. Crash has big choice to make. Will he make the right choice? Or will he make the wrong one? It's up to him to decide.
Read Crash to find out.
A great action packed book, 4 stars, even a little sad sometimes. Great book for kids who like football, funny.
Again What a great book !!!!
